Hip To Be Square

by James A. Holloway on 02/13/12

(Bet you're humming the lyrics from the 80s hit by Huey Lewis and The News right now aren't you.) And even though this post doesn't really have anything to do with QR Codes, they are "hip" and they are "square."

Every once in a while, something will come along that makes you stop and do a double take. Your initial reaction is "Hmm, I wonder what they were thinking when they did that." But after you look at it for a minute it transitions into "Hmm, that's actually pretty cool. I wonder who thought that up."

Occasionally something like that will happen in the world of interior design.

Maybe it's the combination of two totally different, seemingly incompatible fabric patterns, that somehow seem to work in a room.

Maybe it's an oil painting hung over the fireplace that by itself is less than ideal, but pulls together the fabrics and colors in a room.

Maybe it's the oversized cabinet sitting across from the loveseat. At first glance it serves no purpose - there are not even any decorative nick-nacks sitting on it - but at the touch of a button the flat screen television rises up out of it so you can watch your favorite show.

Maybe, just maybe, it's one of the most interesting collections of drapery hardware to hit the market in recent years. It's called the "Simply Square" collection by Finestra

You guessed it, Finestra is offering a square wood pole in a 2" or 3" diameter. Even better, the brackets (which are available in a 3-1/2" or 6" projection) are crafted in such a way that this square rod can be rotated 45 degrees and become a diamond-shaped rod. It is available in lengths from 4 feet up to 12 feet.

They also offer custom rings for this rod that are also universally usable in the square or diamond configuration. Plus you can use any of their finials (even if they are not part of their "Simply Square" product line) by adding the adapter plate that fits over the end of the square pole and allows you to attach the finial of your choice.

Finestra offers 36 custom hand rubbed finishes including Black (in a flat or high gloss effect), Oxidized Copper, Green Bamboo, and Gold Leaf to name a few.

This collection offers the traditional feel of a wood pole product with a touch of the contemporary thanks to it's unique shape.

The Finestra line is made available by Rowley Co. a wholesale supplier of window covering fabrication supplies, upholstery supplies, sewing notions, installation supplies and more. South East Installation Solutions is not compensated by Finestra or Rowley Co. in any way.
